An Imagined Divide
August 8, 2007
For an engaging read about the pilot program putting poetry into the life of Harborview Medical Center, see this July 5th article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Responding to my queries in an email, Tom Crawford, poet-in-residence, writes that he believes the program is “…dispelling, for some anyway, the imagined divide between the sciences and the arts.” Seattle PI reporter Carol Smith describes how “Crawford, with the help of Harborview’s arts program and encouragement from a number of critical-care doctors…[is] developing a variety of venues for infiltrating the institution with words—his own and those of other poets of many nationalities.” For ideas and words to spread around, read more at “Harborview Lets Poetry Do Some of the Healing”.
